The DDU has supported the development of a new website that will help a local hospice to provide information, help with fundraising and act as a fundraising resource.
Providing specialist palliative treatment and care to patients care with advanced and progressive terminal illnesses, the East Lancashire Hospice aims to allow patients to maintain independence and quality of life and ultimately ensure a peaceful, comfortable death whether in the Hospice or at home. The Hospice also has many other services with outpatient clinics, advice services, chiropodist, and complementary therapies. The centre also has community centered activities aimed at younger people providing education and craft activities. The centre felt that a website could perform a number of functions and provide an online method for the centre to interact with the community and the families it supports. With DDU assistance the centre now has a content managed website that is used to promote the centre, provide information and support for patients and loved ones, and present on online place for memorials and memories. This is the first part of an ambitious project to provide more services of the hospice online.
